Transphobia/cissexism is a rampant oppressive system in U.S. society, exasperated by ignorance on the biological, sociological, cultural, and historical foundations of sex, gender identity, gender presentation, and sexual orientation. Recently, there has been much press and online discussion that has targetted trans and nonbinary athletes. Many cisgender people fail to enter these discussions in helpful ways, and many have expressed hesitancy, fear, or confusion on how to challenge transphobia. Join this training with Regan Byrd Consulting to learn why the gender binary has never been accurate and what you can do to combat transphobia, starting with disrupting the current transphobic rhetoric around athletes as a starting ground.
