Media is both a mirror and window into our societies. It is one of the primary ways ideology, stereotypes, and "norms" gets transmitted in our society. Our ways of thinking about groups of people are shaped by what we see, and what we see is reflective of our social constructs and expectations.

In this session, we will be watching the transformational documentary "Codes of Gender" from the Media Education Foundation, and examining how gender is constructed in advertising, and what this has to say about how we as a society think about "maleness" and "femaleness".
