Societies Without Violence: On Transformative Justice
Time & Location
About the event
What do we do with people who cause harm, with people who abuse? Violence is and has been the repsonse in many of our societies, along with dehumanizing ideology about people who casue harm. Whether we are talking about putting people in cages, executing them via the state, or punitive measures resulting in the permanent loss of political, economic, and social resources, many of us have learned to respond to violence and harm with more of the same. Progressive and conservative communities alike struggle with even envisioning alternatives, let alone putting them into action. How can we transform to roots of how and why harm ahppens in the first place? How can we place our focus on both restoring the wellbeing of those who have been harmed, and uplifitng the humanity of those who cause harm as capable of change? How can we confront the systemic roots of harm, not just the fruit it bares? Join Regan Byrd Consulting for this essential community training on transformative justice, abolition, and how we might acheive our vision of societies without violence.
